Writing about Malta is not an easy task. First because it is not a dream place. No one dreams on spending their honey moon or their sweet 16 over there. Secondly, it is a very catholic country, which intimidates the open minded - and rather liberal- Anglo Saxons tourists. Every corner of the island has an image of Mary, Jesus or any of the at least 365 saints of the Catholic church. Once you go to Gozo, a tiny island 30 minutes away from the capital, Victoria, you feel blessed. Gozo has so many churches it wll make you prey and thank God for all those gorgeous places! And they are all so pretty! In fact, during an evening out, I ended inside Saint Anthony's Church, the marriage saint, and while praying for my future love, and also loving the gorgeous golden interior of the holly house, i noticed a queue that was composed by kids wearing white by the exit of the church. It was beautiful. And scary. In fact the Kids were proceeding the Saint Anthony's procession, that would delay me in the church for at least half of a hour behind the saint's massive wooden image. Besides that somewhat funny episode, Gozo offers us, tourists, a great summer experience. The warm breeze in the island makes you relax. The constant sun simply brightens the saddest of the smiles, and the blue waters of Camino makes you reflect on how lucky we are to be alive. I must confess that the island has got it all but luxury, but maybe that is the charm it carries: the lack of structure makes us more humans, and makes us find the real home inside ourselves. Gozo is a hidden place not only in the map, but also in our minds. In this Mediterranean place located somewhere in between Europe and Africa, somewhere so little, I would never think of going, I found my real self who i thought i have lost somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, in between fuzzy Rio and glamorous London.
